HOW TO MAKE SALT DOUGH CAT DECORATIONS
Salt dough is great fun and easy to make and keeps kids occupied for hours!
You will need:
· 1 cupful of plain flour (approx. 250g)
· Half a cupful of table salt (approx. 125g)
· Half a cupful of water (approx.. 125ml)
Preheat the oven to its lowest heat setting and line a baking sheet with baking parchment/greaseproof paper.
Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl then add the water and stir until it comes together in a ball.
Flour a work surface and transfer the dough ball to it. You can now use a floured rolling pin to roll it out and cut out shapes of cats using a cat cookie cutter or any other shapes you have. If you don’t have cookie cutters you can draw a simple cat shape on cardboard and use this as a template.
You can use salt dough to make small simple models too so why not try making a model of your cat!
When you have finished making your models, put them on the baking sheet and bake for 3hours or until solid.
Once they have cooled you can paint them and attach anything you like such as sequins and beads.
*Please make sure children know the dough mixture is not edible*
If you have air dry clay or polymer clay you can use these too of course, just roll them out to about 1cm thickness and use whatever cookie cutters you have to make fun shapes and decorations.
