Broxtowe Women's Project

Updated: Dec 18, 2020

Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP) helps women and children experiencing domestic abuse or who have experienced domestic abuse in the past.

If this is you, we would really love to help you. Our friendly outreach team are just a phone call or text message away from providing you with the support you need to live a life free from abuse.

As well as talking to you about your experience, we can supply you with information on housing, benefits, police procedures and legal issues too.

We want women to feel empowered and providing you with this guidance and information will help you get there.

Not only do we support people living through abuse right now, but we continue to keep a relationship with our service users for as long as they need us, whether they’ve been free from abuse for weeks, months or years. We know that the pain doesn’t go away over night and we want to give you everything you need to be freed from abuse.

Children can be affected by domestic abuse too and Broxtowe Women’s Project also offers a range of services to support young people, giving them a safe environment to talk about their experiences.

Pets and domestic abuse

Taking that first step to get help might seem a bit daunting to begin with, but we will be there with you every step of the way.

There are a number of reasons why some women struggle to leave an abusive relationship, a family pet being one of them. According to Refuge, many women and children are forced to stay with violent partners because they feel they can’t leave their pets b

ehind. Research shows that men who are violent to women may threaten to harm or kill a beloved pet in order to intimidate their partner.

For many women and children who leave violent relationships, the options they have when it comes to their pets are very limited. The services listed below ensure that pets are cared for in a volunteer foster carer’s home until their owner is able to be reunited with them. All placements are strictly confidential.

· Dogs Trust Freedom Project
